Photo above: The True Tones 1960. Photograph Published with the kind permission of Ian Haddrell.

This photograph is from a collection associated with St James Church, & Youth Club, Lockleaze, Bristol BS7. The Passion Play "A Man Dies" was a controversial play, since it portrayed a religious event in what was then a very modern setting. The whole idea of the events leading up to the Crucifixion being portrayed by a bunch of spotty teenagers singing to 1960’s rock and roll tunes and dancing the sexually suggestive jive, just didn’t sit well with some.

The True Tones’, comprising Richard Smith on vocals, Michael Gwilliam (Lead Guitar), Jeff Donadel (Rhythm Guitar), Ron Cooper (Drums) and Andy Reynolds (Tea Chest Bass). Richard Smith and Mike Gwilliam wrote the music to the lyrics provided by Ernest Marvin and Ewan Hooper. The performance in 1960, with Kenneth Maughan playing the part of Christ, was played to a full church hall for a week.

This photograph is from a collection associated with the version of the passion play, produced in the sixties, called ‘A Man Dies’. The group played the music when the play was performed at the Colston Hall in 1966. Prior to that The Strangers were the musicians with Ricky Forde and before him Richard the lead male vocals. Local girl Valerie Mountain was the lead female vocalist throughout, from 1960 to 1966.

"A Man Dies": rock passion play produced by the St James Church, & Youth Club, Lockleaze, Bristol at Colston Hall and Royal Albert Hall"

Britain’s Musical Passion Plays

Built by the Presbyterian Church in the 1950s after the demolishing of a church in the centre of Bristol. Had a large local following under the charismatic ministry of Rev Ernest Marvin in the 1960s. The adjacent Church Hall, since sold to the Community Association to replace the Community Centre on Gainsborough Square that had to be pulled down, was once a thriving centre for the youth of the church and for special church events.

The first of Britain’s Musical Passion Plays, “A Man Dies” was produced by the membership of this church and played at the Royal Albert Hall, and became the forerunner to later productions like “Joseph and his amazing Multicolour Dreamcoat” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”.

A church in South Chard Somerset had been very influential in the Charismatic movement in the UK and overseas in the 1960’s and 1970’s. From the work at Chard a group lead by S.J.Morris (”Don”) formed a fellowship in Bristol. From meeting in homes and the Grange at Almondsbury this fellowship met at St James’ from 1975 for 25 years. The church meeting here took the name “Lockleaze Christian Fellowship”.

St James remained their home until early 2001, when it was transferred to a local church trust to begin a new work, reaching the local community and building on the faithful work and prayers of those involved in it’s history.

The local church trust has placed responsibility for the development of the work here with Ebenezer Church, Filton Avenue, Horfield.

From 2001 until June 2005, Ebenezer Church have used to building to become a centre of community work in Lockleaze, with a variety of initiatives including - large community action projects under the banner of ‘The Noise’, children’s holiday clubs, Alpha courses, carol services, etc. Also the building has been used by many different community groups for meetings, cookery clubs, birthday parties, gardening clubs, etc. St James Church has become a ‘hub in the community’ and the future of the work here will be lead by Dave Jeal and his team, .

Light On

Light On

Needed video to share with Judy since she didn't get to go to the concert with me. This is David's first release "Light On" off his debut self titled album. Plus he's just soooo good. I'm VERY picky about my live performances. I demand that the artist sound like the CD - otherwise I'm just super disappointed and tend to not listen to their music anymore. I hate to think that it's all computer generated - all studio enhanced and whatnot. So far Chris Isaak is the only one I've found who's soooooo phenomenal live - sounds exactly as he does on his CDs. Can sing A cappella and sound wonderful. Well, DC did that for me. Oh man was he good. Sang part of one song A cappella and I got chills. If only I had caught that on video! What a talent!

MY HUSBAND!!

Yay! After SIX months of waiting his CD finally hit the shelves on Tuesday!! I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that everyone bought it because we all know how amazing he and his music are. lol. j/k. (not about the amazingness... that's no joke.)

...In my DC high I completely forget to look for the new The All-American Rejects and Nickelback CDs at the store. hehe. oops. It also didn't help that I was distracted by some Twilight merchandise right after I found the CD. :)

Before sunrise ( coming back to life !)

Before sunrise ( coming back to life !)

I know the caption is not right but I loved this move ..no i think i liked before sunset more ..

any now coming to the point this is taken during uttarakhand trip ..I just loved the Himalayas ..

now let's take this opportunity to add the lyrics of my favorite song !

Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
Where were you when I was hurt and I was helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone elses words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun

Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of live and the seeds of change were planted

Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but
I took a heavenly ride through one silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life

I took a heavenly ride trough our silence
I knew the waiting had begin
And headed straight... into the shining sun

Come back home...

Come back home...

04-11-11 Chicken Ring 101-365

04-11-11 Chicken Ring 101-365

Every time I make this for dinner and tell someone about it, I always get the same response, "You made what? What is that?" And I go into elaborate detail on how to make it and why it's a ring. So, I thought I'd take a picture of this yummy dish.

It's really called a ring because you're supposed to shape it into a ring. However, I'm pretty lazy and my ring usually looks more like 2 logs. But, Chicken Logs don't sound as nice as Chicken Ring ;)

Lemon Herb Chicken Ring:
2 cups coarsely chopped cooked chicken (about 12 oz.)
? cup diced red bell pepper
3 TBSP chopped fresh parsley, divided
1 tsp. lemon zest
2 garlic cloves, pressed
1 cup (4oz) shredded mozzarella cheese
? cup mayonnaise
1 tsp. Italian Seasoning
? cup Parmesan cheese, divided
2 pkgs. (8 oz. each) refrigerated crescent rolls

1.Add chicken, garlic,2 TBSP parsley, lemon zest, garlic, mozzarella cheese, mayonnaise, and seasoning to bowl. Add all but 2 TBSP parmesan cheese to mixture; mix well.

2.Unroll crescent rolls; separate into 16 triangles. Arrange triangles, slightly overlapping, in a circle.

3.Spoon chicken mixture evenly over dough in a continuous circle. Bring points of triangles up over filling and tuck under dough at the center of the ring. (Filling will show.) Sprinkle remaining Parmesan cheese over ring. Bake 28 – 30 minutes or until golden brown on 360. Garnish with remaining parsley.

chicken wings

chicken wings

first i steamed the wings until they were almost fully cooked. steaming keeps the skin moist while rendering out a lot of the fat. the water left in your steamer is totally gross, but it's nice to see how much fat you avoided eating!

then you coat the wings lightly in sauce (i used soy sauce, honey, kraft brand bbq sauce and some salt and pepper this time) and bake them for about 20 minutes (flip them over after 10 minutes) at 375-400 degrees.

then you eat!
